Crossville City Council Member Dr. Mark Fox Hosts Water Forum

Crossville residents gathered for a town hall meeting Thursday to discuss an upcoming November referendum that could allow the City Council to transfer municipal water assets to the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority. Council Member Dr. Mark Fox, who hosted the forum, explained that under the city charter, registered voters within city limits have the final say. A “no” vote directly blocks any transfer, whereas a “yes” vote grants the council permission to transfer certain assets, which could lead to a potential merger. While state regulators and CPWA officials argue that regionalization would distribute the cost of major infrastructure projects like the Meadow Park Dam, Fox noted the CPWA has stated it would be improper to make the dam an immediate priority until further studies and data are gathered. Residents also expressed concern over forfeiting local control of the city’s water system and having local water revenues subsidize regional sewer costs.
